About

Hi, I'm Ryan.

Founder of Trafexo. Fifteen years running paid advertising and building the websites and tracking behind it, with $75M+ in managed spend along the way.

Ryan Self, founder of Trafexo

I've spent my career on the operating side of performance marketing, managing live advertising accounts across Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. Somewhere past the $75 million mark in managed spend you stop being impressed by dashboards and start caring about one question: did the money come back?

After fifteen years running other people's budgets inside big marketing operations, I knew which parts of the work I actually loved. Building something and watching it go live. Getting deep enough into the data that the answer shows up. The fact that no two businesses bring the same problem. Trafexo is me keeping those parts and dropping the rest: I work directly with businesses where every lead, quote, or booked job has to earn back the spend, put fifteen years of lessons on their side of the table, and get judged on whether the results are real.

What gets fixed first

Most agencies focus on running campaigns. The question is always how to get more clicks. Trafexo starts before that: should you be buying this traffic at all? When an account isn't working, the problem is usually the conversion path, the landing page, the offer, or how leads get handled. Spending more comes last, not first.

Why the platform's numbers aren't the whole story.

Paid advertising often gets blamed for results it's actually creating. An account can look like organic is doing the work and paid is dead weight, when the paid is the thing generating demand that shows up later as organic. Turn it off and revenue drops in places the dashboard never tied to the ad spend. So platform numbers are where the work starts, not where it ends. What matters is whether total revenue moved, not what one channel claimed credit for.

The numbers that count are the ones tied to the business, not just cost-per-click. A cost-per-lead can look great while the leads themselves get worse, so close rates and margin matter more than what the ad platform reports. Reported conversions get pressure-tested against reality. Did organic dip when paid rose? Is the tracking even firing where it should? And a campaign running for years still gets cut the moment it stops paying its way. None of that is about doing more. It's about knowing what's working and dropping what isn't.

The work behind the number

That $75M wasn't one account. Across those years I've run campaigns for:

Consumer services

ADT, Orkin, Verizon, Amazon

Healthcare & pharma

Pfizer, Sanofi, Menarini

SaaS

Deel, BambooHR, Constant Contact

Financial services

Visa, Progressive, The Motley Fool

This work was done across previous roles, not as Trafexo clients. It's experience, not a client list.

One operator, on purpose

Trafexo is one person by design. Not because the work is small, but because layers are where projects go sideways. Routine checks catch what shouldn't wait. Senior judgment decides what changes. You talk to the person doing the work, every time.
